SCIENTISTS FROM LINCOLN AGRITECH

Lincoln Agritech was commissioned by Sealord to conduct research trials on the product, including optimum product profiling, growth trials vs competitors, dilution rates and impact on soil microbial levels.

The aim of this project was to assist Sealord in assessing/optimising their stick water as a liquid fertiliser/biostimulant product, aimed at the home-gardener market. Two Sealord product concentrates (designated Sealord and Sealord+Fish oil) were investigated in this project that differed only in the addition of 10% fish oil to the base product. The Lincoln Agritech trial findings were as follows:

  • Product composition analysis indicated that the Sealord products contain nutritional content comparable to commercial synthetic products already on the market.
  • Microbial levels remained relatively stable in concentrates, however, a significant shift in the makeup of the microbial population was observed following 3 months storage at room temperature.
  • Plant trials with a dilution series of concentrates established that a 1/200 dilutions represents the best dilution factor for promotion of home garden vegetable growth.

Trials conducted to compare the performance of Sealord products and two commercially available similar products demonstrated that the Sealord products performed very well in plant growth promotion. In terms of root growth these results were significantly better than both competitor products which is strong indicator of plant and soil health.

Comprehensive Research Trials

Across all plant trials, the Sealord product generally outperformed the competitor products in promoting plant growth in both root (Radish) and leaf (Bok Choy).

Analysis of the impacts of Sealord, Sealord+Fish oil and the competitor products on the soil microbial community over a 9-week period showed that Sealord and Sealord+Fish oil caused significant shifts in bacterial soil community structure that were distinct to those induced by the other products.

In contrast to the identified impacts on bacterial communities, the Sealord and Sealord+Fish oil products had minimal, transient impacts on the soil fungal community.
