Naked can be applied all year round. Apply every 1-2 weeks during spring and autumn. In summer and winter apply every 3-4 weeks. Best to apply early morning or early evening.
Sealord Naked is an organic fertiliser with no minerals such as phosphate. Phosphate is generally mined and shipped from overseas markets. Because we are using a waste stream from our processing site in Nelson, it is also has no embedded carbon where as many of the other fertilisers have manufactured nitrogen using fossil fuel to produce or are mined phosphates that will have a significant carbon footprint.
It is better for the environment as it will not impact the underlying water table with the introduction of manufactured nitrogen (urea)
90% of everything Sealord catches is utilised for human consumption. We also produce fishmeal which is sold for animal consumption (in aquaculture farms).
Sealord Naked, is also a food. It is a food for plants and we are proud that we are able to use 100% of the fish we catch for nutrition.
Please refer to our website sealordnaked.com for further information
Our fertiliser can be used with any types of plants, flowers, vegetables, lawns etc. however we do have the following recommendations:
Organic fertilisers feed your soil, whereas synthetic fertilisers focus on feeding the plants growing in the soil. Both are made up of the same primary nutrients: nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Organic fertilisers get these nutrients from natural sources i.e for Naked it is seaweed and fish wastewater. Synthetic fertilisers are derived from man-made sources (such as Nitrogen from urea)
Naked is made from two certified organic materials. Fish wastewater (also called stick water by scientists) which comes from Sealord’s land-based manufacturing site in Nelson. We add a NZ Seaweed concentrate made from seaweed harvested from mussel farms in the Coromandel. These materials have natural levels of key plant nutrition elements such as;
As Naked fertiliser is a natural product containing both fish and seaweed, it has a fishy, ocean odour. After spraying, depending on the weather, the odour will take approximately an hour to dispense if dilution ratios have been used correctly.
Naked fertiliser does not expire. We have included a manufacturing date and batch code on the bottle so we can trace it should there be any problems.
With the concentrated product, ideally avoid contact with porous surfaces. If contact is made, simply wash off with water. If you get the product on your clothes just put them into a regular wash once you finished gardening.
No, it is not harmful, but we do not recommend leaving within reach of children or pets.
It will vary depending on what you are fertilising and the weather conditions. Based on the research we have done on radish, bok choy and lawns, you should start to see some benefits within a month to six weeks.
Other plants, such as broad beans can utilise the fertiliser to put down strong roots first before foliage growth so you may not see immediate growth.
For the concentrated products, 1 capful (25ml) will make 5L of liquid fertiliser. For the spray and grow product, the bottle will cover up to 300 sq metres.
Apart from our spray & grow product, our products need to be mixed with water before applying.
Overseas research shows that the ability of a crop plant to resist or tolerate insect pests and diseases is tied to optimal physical, chemical and mainly biological properties of soils. Soils with high organic matter and active soil biology generally exhibit good soil fertility. Plants grown in such soils generally exhibit lower abundance of several insect herbivores, reductions that may be attributed to a lower nitrogen content in organically farmed crops. The excessive use of inorganic fertilizers may can cause nutrient imbalances and lower pest resistance.
Yes, the bottle is. It is made from 50% new plastic and 50% recycled. It can be recycled in the normal council recycling programs.
The cap is not recyclable in council programs.
Sealord sell a limited amount of stickwater to commercial applicators who use it as an extra ingredient in their fertilisers that they sell to farms
We would recommend that you continue to use it on a small piece of planting to see if it is still effective in stimulating growth. If this isn’t evident then you can dispose of the remaining liquid in the normal wastewater system in your local area (not storm water)
This liquid is the last piece of the fish that we are not using. It completes the waste cycle and ensures that 100% of what we catch is being used.
Naked fertiliser is natural and organic. By adding organic fertiliser, this will encourage more flowering, which in turn will attract more pollinators.
The lids are designed to be leak proof which means the lids need to be of a robust build. Their design is similar to other ring pulls on the market. If you are having trouble opening the bottle, a helpful hint is to use long nosed pliers which makes it much easier to pull. You could also remove the lid completely and remove the ring pull before replacing back onto the bottle.
Yes it is possible, which is why it is important to always read and follow application directions. Too much fertiliser can cause damage. This is more important to watch when using inorganic fertilisers in particular but we have undertaken significant research with Lincoln Agritech to get the right level of fertiliser to be applied.
If you realise you have applied too much, wet the area with a hose or sprinkler but make sure to remove it before the ground gets boggy. Repeat every few days until the plants appear to be recovering.
Please contact us with a photo of your bottle with the batch number and manufactured date showing along with and receipt and we will provide you with a replacement voucher.
If you are allergic to seafood, you can still use the product. We would suggest wearing gloves and perhaps a mask so as not to touch or breath it in as a precaution. Wash all edible plants before eating.
We have supplied a click on unit with the Spray and Grow bottle that you can simply attach to your hose in case your existing hose connection doesn’t work. This can also be removed, and you can use your existing connection on your hose.
As long as you are following the application directions your plants will benefit from using our fertilisers. Our research with Lincoln Agritech supports this.
Of course, we cannot account for specific contamination that may be within the soil or pot and we would suggest that if in a pot you replace the soil or the pot itself to ensure that there is no pesticide contamination present.
You should not need to use any further fertiliser (with Nitrogen, Phosphate and Potassium) but sometimes your soil may be more acidic or alkaline in nature that may affect plant growth. We would suggest talking to your local plant and garden centre for soil advice.
We use specialised filling machines to ensure consistent, precise quantities in every bottle, every time. We also conduct random checks on every batch as a further safety measure against underfilling. Whilst the bottle appears underfilled, the volume
of concentrated fertiliser equates to exactly 1L of water (hence the container
size). When mixing with water added it will produce the amount of diluted
fertiliser as detailed on the back.
Yes you can, please email us at nakedadmin@sealord.co.nz and we will contact you to understand your requirements.
This is something we are planning on doing. Please join our mailing list on our website or scan the QR code and we will contact you to let you know how you can take advantage of this.
We will endeavour to have your order delivered within 5 working days but this is subject to the courier network.
If there is a genuine issue with any of our fertilisers, we will investigate the batch number to understand what the issue could be. From our investigations, if there is a defect in the fertiliser, we will provide a refund in the form of a store gift card.
